Hi, myself (uk) and now wife (peruana) just got married towards the end of my tourist visa (21st) after a stressful almost 3 months, we're going to bolivia tomorrow for a week.
Since will we return after my tourist visa has ended (31st of aug), will they give me a 'reset'/additional days?
We have all our documents together with us, currently only our municipality marriage signing sheet; not the RENIEC issued marriage document. (it's what we're waiting for..)
We also have a child on the way (due date next march/april)
Just wondering what the process is after i reenter Peru, as leaving my wife and unborn child isn't exactly an option..
...
Firstly when I arrived in Peru this time, i specifically told the immigration officer i was here to get married, she gave me 90 days exactly.

It's always at the discretion of the immigration officer you have to face when you (re-)enter how many days he/she is willing to give you.So, depending on how long you already stayed over the last 365 days, considering that you already stayed the full 90 days officially allowed in a 180-day period and as well depending on the mood of the officer, you might get 90 days when you re-enter Peru or 60 or 30 or just a few days. No-one can tell you. However, being married to a Peruvian now (have a copy of the municipality marriage document with you and best the proof that you already applied for a Peruvian marriage certificate at Reniec) your chances are good that the immigration officer let's you re-enter the country as a tourist (Peruvians have the right to a family union); for how long he/she will allow you to stay, I don't know. But you could explain that it took you longer than expected to get married and you couldn't apply for a family visa anymore, because your Peruvian marriage certificate still isn't issued and your stay as a tourist was about to expire. So, you now want to return to Peru to apply for a family visa as soon as Reniec issues the Peruvian marriage certificate, especially as your wife is pregnant. Usually, that does the trick and you should get at least 30 or 60 days perhaps even 90 days.Ok, so now you are back in Peru, hopefully with a fresh 90-day stay as a tourist. Now it depends on your plans what you want to do.Even if you get the full 90 days, your stay as a tourist expires in December; so, you have to leave then (it might be difficult to immediately return to Peru as a tourist as by then you already stayed at least the max allowed time of 183 days in a 365-day period) or you could overstay your time, which I don't recommend in your case, and pay a fine of S/ 5.35 per day you overstayed once you leave (the cost for overstaying in 2025; overstayed days in 2026 will be more expensive). For more info on overstaying check out our article Peruvian overstay fine.As you at least want to stay in Peru until next year April, your best option, however, is to apply for a family visa (visa familiar residente casado con Peruana). You find the requirements and a step-by-step guide in our Family visa article. So, as soon as you are back in Peru, get required documents for it together. Critical your ACRO check with Apostille (if you don't have it yet, apply for it immediately at the National Police Chiefs' Council's Criminal Records Office in the UK) and your Peruvian marriage certificate. And as soon you have all documents together apply for the family visa. Once approved your visa is valid for two years and then can be extended. Only downside: if you are outside Peru for more than half a year, your visa is cancelled.I hope this general info is helpful. If you have more detailed questions, feel free to ask.All the best for you, your wife and the little oneEva

- This commment is unpublished.@Richard Pittam ZavalaGreat that you already have your ACRO check and only the Ficha de canje from Interpol and the Peruvian marriage certificate are missing.Have you already personally applied for the registration of your marriage at Reniec or do you have it done automatically? Usually the registration takes around 20 business days, but as everything in Peru expect delays. I just was in contact with another reader who is waiting already for 6 weeks for the registration of his marriage, however performed in Cusco, and issuance of the certificate. Therefore, don't suggest 60 days. Wait and see and if necessary ask for the full 90 days.If you only get 30 or 60 days, don't worry. You can still manage. With a little explaining and a relaxed Interpol officer you could get the Ficha with just your municipal document and you could apply for the family visa without your Peruvian marriage certificate (see the chapter Can I apply for a family visa if I don't have all the required documentsin our Family visa article. So, whatever happens just make sure that you apply for your visa latest a day before your stay as a tourist expires.Have a nice trip to Bolivia.GreetingsEva
