Losing your Carné de extranjería (CE) or having it stolen or damaged can be stressful - especially since the carné is your official ID in Peru and required for many everyday tasks. Fortunately, replacing it is a standardized process at Migraciones and, thanks to the Agencia Digital, much easier today than it used to be.
If your carné (CE), Carné Temporal Migratorio (CTM), or Carné de Permiso Temporal de Permanencia (CPP) is no longer usable or in your possession, you must apply for a replacement card. This procedure is officially called Duplicado de carné (or duplicado de CTM/CPP, depending on your document type).
The good news: as long as your residence status in Peru is still valid, applying for a duplicate is usually straightforward. The entire application can be completed online, and after approval you simply schedule an appointment to collect your new card. Below we explain the requirements and the step-by-step process so you know exactly what to expect.

Step 2: Select the procedure
On the main page:

Step 3: Choose the Migraciones office
You are now on the Duplicado - Dependencia page.
Choose the Migraciones office handling your application (Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, etc.) under Seleccione la dependencia donde desee gestionar su trámite.
Continue to the next step.
Step 4: Upload required documents
On this page open each requirement tab and upload the requested documents.
Under Pago por derecho de trámite, you must enter information from your payment receipt:
- Número de recibo
This corresponds to the secuencia de pago on the págalo receipt. - Código de verificación
This is the código de control on the págalo receipt. - Fecha de recibo
This is the fecha de operación on the págalo receipt.
Click Validar after entering the data.
Under Documento de Identificación:
- Select document type (in most cases pasaporte)
- Enter details
- Upload copy
Under Motivo duplicado upload:
- the police report - which is highly recommended if your carné was stolen (or lost), or
- a sworn statement confirming that your carné is lost or damaged (be aware that a sworn statement is often rejected).
Accept terms and click Siguiente.
Step 5: Review and confirm your personal information
You are now shown a summary page with your personal details already filled in.
The only fields you can edit here are:
- your mobile phone number, and
- your email address.
If everything is correct, click Guardar datos y generar trámite.
Step 6: Confirmation of your application
Your Solicitud de duplicado de carné will now be displayed on the screen. This document confirms that your application for a replacement carné was successfully submitted.
At the top right, below the barcode, you’ll find your Número de expediente (also sometimes called Número de trámite).
Download and/or print this document and keep it safe. Click Finalizar.
After submitting your application
According to Migraciones, the official processing time for approving your application is three business days. In practice, however, most applicants receive the notification in their Buzón Electrónico within two to four weeks.
Check your Buzón electrónico regularly to make sure you don’t miss any notification.
You can also check the status of your application:
- in the Agencia Digital under Historial de trámites, or
- on the Migraciones website under Consulta de estado de trámite.
Picking up your replacement carné
Once you received a notification from Migraciones in your Buzon electronico informing you about the approval of your application and the issuance of your replacement carné log in to the Agencia Digital and book a pickup appointment under:
- Citas en Línea, subpoint recojo de documentos.
Download and print the appointment confirmation.
Note: Some Migraciones offices may not require appointments for pickup.
If you urgently need your carné:
Especially in Lima, getting an appointment to pick up your carné can sometimes turn into a real test of patience. Slots are often fully booked, and availability can appear and disappear quickly. Unfortunately, there is no shortcut here - your only option is to keep checking the system again and again: later the same day, the next day, or a few days later. Persistence usually pays off.
If, for whatever reason, you urgently need proof of your carné but can’t secure an appointment to collect the physical card, there is a practical workaround. You can download a document from the Agencia Digital confirming that you have a carné and that it's valid, even if you don’t yet have the new card in hand.
To do this, log in to the Agencia Digital and, on the main page, go to the left-hand menu. Under “Constancias” select “Carné de Extranjería.” A page will open showing the data printed on your carné. At the bottom of the page, confirm the statement “Estos son los datos con los cuales se emitirá su constancia…” by ticking the small box and then click Siguiente.
You will then see the “Constancia de Emisión de Carné de Extranjería” on your screen. Download it and, if necessary, print it. While it doesn’t replace the physical card, it serves as official proof that your carné is valid and issued with your correct personal information.
To collect your carné, be on time and bring:
- passport
- printed appointment confirmation (if applicable)
Staff will direct you to the collection counter where your new card is handed over.
Congrats! You made it.
