Finding your way through Lima's city jungle and discovering the many scattered attractions the capital of Peru offers can be quite difficult, and you might miss a vital part of Lima's charisma. An enjoyable way of discovering the charm of Lima with no hassle is to make the good old city tour with a bus. If you prefer something different, even try a bicycle tour.

There are lots of companies in Lima doing many tours and trips through the city center, the different districts and the surroundings of Lima, so it's hard to choose. Anyhow, below find a few tour operators we think are offering great tours, good value for money and are following the international security standards.

Lima offers a lot for cinema fans. The bigger cinemas have several theaters all up to modern technical standards and really don't have to hide with their general equipment and facilities. Many new movies are shown quite fast in Lima's cinemas, often in their original language with Spanish subtitles. They mainly show movies for children and cartoons in Spanish.

Most cinemas offer special prices on Tuesday and / or Thursday, of course, for children and retirees. To find out more about the actual program, starting times and prices, have a look at the cinema section of the daily newspaper "El Comercio". After the listing of the bigger cinemas in Lima, you find a few "Cine Clubs". Most of them often present very interesting movies otherwise not shown in Lima. A visit is worthwhile!

When we really think about it, zoos around the world aren't the perfect places for the animals that have to live in way too small cages or enclosures with hardly any entertainment apart from the visitor who has to see them living in such conditions. Despite these problems that afflict all zoos, they provide visitors with a selection of local and exotic wildlife. Anyway, most of us like going to the zoo, especially kids. Seeing and learning more about animals we otherwise might never get to see in their local habitat is fascinating and can be educational as well.

Lima has two main zoos, the Parque Zoologico Huachipa and the Parque de las Leyendas. While Parque Zoologica Huachipa is the newer zoo and a research center, Parque de las Leyendas is the traditional Lima zoo. There is much more to the "Park of Legends": The zoo was built right inside Lima's most extensive ancient city. This is one of the most important pre-Hispanic complexes at the central Peruvian coast called the Archaeological Complex of Maranga and today it houses some museums, various Huacas (Adobe Pyramids) and the beautiful Botanical Garden.

Lima was for a long time and unfortunately for some visiting the country still is an unavoidable must on their way to other treasures and attractions Peru offers. Lima is ill-reputed as a bustling, dirty, dangerous, unfriendly and unattractive city. This general judgment isn't really fair. Over the last few years the municipality of the Lima with the different district municipalities put significant efforts into enhancing the urban image by cleaning and shaping up not only streets and buildings but as well by remodeling Lima's old parks and creating some new green areas.

Today you can find many magnificent parks in Lima, some well-known others hidden, some full of history others tiny. Anyhow, if you need a place to relax, have a picnic lunch in a peaceful environment, have some fun or just want to take a break from Lima's everyday life, there are some really nice places to do that.

Peruvians are very child-friendly. Unfortunately, many cities in Peru, especially Lima, are far from that. The lack of adequate infrastructure and child orientated thinking may be the principal reasons for that. Anyhow, if you have a closer look, you find some great places for children of all ages that visit the capital of Peru an unforgettable adventure. Below find some suggestions on how and where to entertain you kids while staying in Lima.

Be it a visit to one of the many museums, a place where you can enjoy the local wildlife, a short stop at a park or playground, a trip to the beach or even a short stay over at one of the family resorts around Lima your kids (and you) will enjoy their time and have a lot of fun!
