I’m Canadian, married to a Peruvian, and planning to apply for Familiar de Residente. I’m arranging a Certified Criminal Record Check (RCMP/CCRTIS) from abroad.
The Peruvian Consulate in Montreal replied to me (in writing) that:
- A Certified Criminal Record Check from the RCMP is valid for Peru, and
- They still legalise it for Peruvian procedures for 45 CAD by post, even after Canada joined the Hague Convention.
Given this, I'd appreciate your input:
- That the following chain is still accepted by Migraciones as an alternative to apostille for Canadians:
- RCMP check → Peruvian Consulate in Montreal (legalisation) → RREE in Lima (legalisation of consular signature) → official Spanish translation in Peru.
And as with the UK, the Canadian embassy in Lima cannot issue a Hague apostille, and only Global Affairs / provincial authorities in Canada can do that.
I’m trying to avoid the long Canadian apostille processing times, so I’d like to be sure the Montreal consulate + RREE route is valid for a Canadian applying for a family visa.
Many thanks in advance for any clarification.
