How to update your information registered in the Migraciones database

Update your information in the Migraciones database

How to apply for the Actualización de datos

If any personal information printed on your carné or registered in the Migraciones database changes, you must request an Actualización de datos (update of personal data), formerly known as Modificación de datos.

This applies, for example, if you:

  • receive a new passport
  • change your name
  • get married or divorced
  • move to a new address
  • depending on visa type:
    • change employer
    • change university or educational institution
    • change the religious organization you work with

Migraciones must be informed within 30 days of the change. Failing to do so can result in a monthly fine of 1% of one UIT (S/ 55 per month being late in 2026).

Depending on what changed, you must apply for:

  • Actualización de datos con emisión de documento (with issuance of a new carné), or
  • Actualización de datos sin emisión de documento (without a new carné).

Table of contents

When to apply for the update with the issuance of a new carné and when without?

Generally speaking, if information printed on your carné changes, you must apply for an update with issuance of a new document (Actualización de datos con emisión de documento). This includes:

  • your name or surname
  • your marital status
  • your address
  • your passport number

If the change concerns information not printed on your carné, you apply without issuance of a new card (Actualización de datos sin emisión de documento). Examples include:

  • your employer
  • the school or university you are studying at
  • the religious entity you work for

Explanatory notes

(1) Marriage certificate

Marriage in Peru at a municipality integrated into the Reniec system:

  • Certified copy of your marriage certificate issued by Reniec (not older than 90 days)

Married in Peru at a municipality not integrated into the Reniec system:

Some municipalities are not integrated into RENIEC and only issue local records. In this case:

  • Step 1: Obtain a certified copy of your marriage certificate from the (provincial) municipality. Inform them that you need the copy for Migraciones-related purposes, so the right stamp is put on the certificate.
  • Step 2: Pay the fee on pagalo.pe or at any Banco de la Nacion branch (authority: Reniec; code 02143 - Certificaciones; concepto: Certificacion de firma;  fee: S/ 31).
  • Step 3: Apply at a Reniec office for the so-called "Solicitud de authenticacion de firmas". Bring the certified copy of your marriage certificate, the payment receipt, ID, and copies. In Lima this can only be done at the Reniec office in Miraflores (Av. Diez Conseco 230) or the Reniec office in Jesus Maria (Jr. Talara 130).
  • Step 4: At Reniec you are handed a form to fill out. Then, just wait your turn in the “Certificaciones” line, hand in your documents and usually within a week or two you can pick up your marriage certificate with another stamp on it. Only now Migraciones will accept your marriage certificate.

Marriage abroad to a Peruvian citizen

  • Certified copy of your marriage certificate issued by the Peruvian consulate and legalized by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (RREE) in Lima or their provincial offices (not older than 180 days)

Already in Peru without a recent copy? At the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (RREE) in Lima, you can get certified copies of birth, marriage, and death certificates registered at a Peruvian consulate abroad.

Marriage abroad to a foreigner

  • Marriage certificate with Apostille or - if the country in which the document was issued didn't sign the Hague Apostille Convention - legalized by a Peruvian consulate (not older than 6 months).

Spanish translation in Peru is required; further legalization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (RREE) may apply.

(2) All other foreign documents

All other foreign documents, including divorce and death certificates (even so-called “international” certificates) must be

  • Apostilled, or
  • Legalized by a Peruvian consulate abroad and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (RREE) in Lima or their provincial offices.

Spanish translation in Peru is required; further legalization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (RREE) may apply.

Continue to the next step.

Step 4: Upload required documents (part 1)

Open each requirement tab and upload the requested documents.

Actualización de datos con emisión de documento application
Actualización de datos con emisión de documento application - grupos/requisitos

Under Pago por derecho de trámite, you must enter information from your payment receipt:

  • Número de recibo
This corresponds to the secuencia de pago on the págalo receipt.
  • Código de verificación
This is the código de control on the págalo receipt.
  • Fecha de recibo
This is the fecha de operación on the págalo receipt.

Click Validar after entering the data.

Under Documento de Identificación:

  • Select document type (in most cases pasaporte)
  • Enter details
  • Upload copy

If your passport changed, enter the details of the old registered passport here.

When both tabs show green checks, accept terms and click Siguiente.

Step 5: Upload required documents (part 2)

You now see this screen:

Update migraciones information with issuance of a new carne
Actualización de datos con emisión de documento application - grupos/requisitos

Only complete the tab relevant to your change and upload required document for this change. Leave all other tabs untouched.

Examples:

Name change: Open the Nombres y apellidos tab and upload, for example, your passport with your correct name.

Marital status change: Open the Estado civil tab and select the subpoint that applies:

  • If you got married, upload your marriage certificate.
  • If you got divorced, upload an official document proving that your marriage was dissolved, such as a divorce certificate or other divorce papers.
  • If you are widowed, upload the death certificate of your spouse.

Address change: Open the Dirección tab and upload either a property title deed, your rental contract or a sworn statement (Declaración jurada de domicilio)

New passport: Open the Documento de viaje tab, select passport, enter your new passport number and upload a copy of your new passport.

Click Siguiente.

Step 6: Review changes

You now see this page on your screen:

Actualización de datos con emisión de documento application
Actualización de datos con emisión de documento application - in this case the passport number was changed

Verify displayed change carefully.

If correct, accept the change and click Siguiente.

Step 7: Confirmation of your application

You will now see the Actualización de datos con emisión de documento document displayed on your screen. This document confirms that your application for updating your information was successfully submitted.

Download and/or print the confirmation and keep it safe.

After submitting your application

After submitting the application, all you can do is wait. The official processing time for approving your application is 3 business days. In practice, however, most applicants receive the notification with the official resolution that the update of the information was registered within a week or two.

Check your Buzón electrónico regularly to make sure you don’t miss any notification.

You can also check the status of your application:

Getting your new carné

Once the update is approved, you are still not done. You need your new carné.

So, once again check your Buzon regularly and wait for the Notificación de expedición del carné informing you that your carné was issuedOfficially this can take up to 30 business days, but reports range from a few days to two months.

Once notified that your carné is ready, log in to the Agencia Digital and book a pickup appointment under:

  • Citas en Línea, subpoint recojo de documentos.

Download and print the appointment confirmation.

Note: Some Migraciones offices may not require appointments for pickup.

If you urgently need your updated carné:

Especially in Lima, getting an appointment to pick up your carné can sometimes turn into a real test of patience. Slots are often fully booked, and availability can appear and disappear quickly. Unfortunately, there is no shortcut here - your only option is to keep checking the system again and again: later the same day, the next day, or a few days later. Persistence usually pays off.

If, for whatever reason, you urgently need proof of your updated carné but can’t secure an appointment to collect the physical card, there is a practical workaround. You can download a document from the Agencia Digital confirming that your carné is valid and already reflects your updated personal data, even if you don’t yet have the new card in hand.

To do this, log in to the Agencia Digital and, on the main page, go to the left-hand menu. Under “Constancias” select “Carné de Extranjería.” A page will open showing the data printed on your carné, including the recent updates. At the bottom of the page, confirm the statement “Estos son los datos con los cuales se emitirá su constancia…” by ticking the small box and then click Siguiente.

You will then see the “Constancia de Emisión de Carné de Extranjería” on your screen. Download it and, if necessary, print it. While it doesn’t replace the physical card, it serves as official proof that your carné is valid and issued with your correct personal information.

Picking up your carné

To collect your carné, be on time and bring:

  • passport
  • printed appointment confirmation (if applicable)

Staff will direct you to the collection counter where your new card is handed over.

Congrats! You made it.

    Hello Eva
I have had my Carnet De Extranjeria for nearly a year now but I see my passport is up for renewal later this year. I will be out of Peru while I get my renewed passport. Obviously I will update my information with Migraciones online. But I assume that I will need a new carne.

Any idea of how do I handle entering Peru again with my new passport? Do I use my old carne? Or….?

Many thanks for sharing all your wisdom!

      @Rod
      Hello Rod,

if nothing changed over the past few months, you cannot apply for the Actualización de datos con emisión de documento on the Agencia Digital , which is required when you get a new passport as you will get a new carné (same number) with the correct passport number on it, when you are outside Peru. So, you can only do it once you are back in Peru.

So, if you get your new passport abroad, your old passport most probably will get cancelled. Make sure you keep it. To enter Peru just proceed to an immigration counter at the airport (or border). If you arrive at Jorge Chavez in Lima do not use the e-gates. There just show your carné, your old and new passport and explain that you got a new passport while being abroad and assure the immigration officer that as soon as you are home you will apply for the Actualización de datos con emisión de documento on the Agencia Digital. That's it.

      Greetings
      Eva

Hello. I wasn't aware before that I had to update my personal information. I believe that I have a substantial fine now with Migraciones. How can I check to see if I have a fine? And if I have one, how can I pay it?
Thank you so much for all this information. Your site is literally a lifesaver for me!

      @MC
      Hello MC,

thank you so much for your nice words about LimaEasy.

You cannot check if you have a fine, because if your address changed, for example, how should Migraciones know about it and somewhere list a fine? Or if you got a new passport, Migraciones only knows about it when you tell them and only then could fine you.

So, just apply for the actualization de datos and best upload a document proving that this change only occurred up to 30 days ago. If that isn't possible, hope that the one evaluating your application misses that the change occurred already a few months ago or whenever.

If Migraciones fine you, they will send you a notification and request that you pay a fine because you updated your personal information too late.

All fines have to be paid on pagalo.pe (or any Banco de la Nacion branch). How it's done is explained in our article Paying administration charges and processing fees in Peru.

Anyway, all you can do now is to apply for the actualizacion and hope for the best. And by the way, if the fine is substantial and you are tight on money you usually can make a deal with Migraciones and/or make instalment payments.

I wish you all the best.

      Greetings

Is it necessary to change a telephone number? If so, would the "Actualización de datos sin emisión de documento" be appropriate?
    Many thanks!!

      @Rod
      Hello Rod,

no, it's not necessary and not possible. While the "Actualización de datos sin emisión de documento" would be the correct procedure if something changes that is not printed on your card, there is no option to change the phone number. And as Migraciones never uses a phone number to get in contact with you it's really not a problem if an old phone number is registered.

However, next time you have to extend your visa, for example, or have to apply for anything else update your personal information before applying for it. You can do this on the Agencia Digital. Choose in the left menu on the main page the point “Actualizacion de datos” which brings you to the Sistema de Actualicación de Datos page. Here select option 2 Actualización de datos - Otras Calidades and fill in required fields (when I remember correctly there should be a field for the phone number as well.

      @Rod
      Hello Rod,

after replying I had the feeling that my answer might be confusing with all the "Actualizaciónes de datos".

On the main page of the Agencia Digital you find in the left menu the points ""Actualización de datos sin emisión de documento", "Actualización de datos con emisión de documento" - both which you don't have to apply for when just your phone number changed - and usually further down another point "Actualización de datos". So, next time you have to apply for anything before doing so just quickly click on the "Actualización de datos" and update your personal information.

I hope it's now a little bit clearer.

      Hello,

you shouldn't have a problem. Just select a Migraciones office in Lima to handle your application.

You haven't mentioned why you need a new carné. So, just be aware that if you moved from Cusco to Lima you were supposed to change your address within 30 days.

Hello, thank you for your help, my change in address and religious location (con / sin emisión) went well. How do I find my information on the migraciones website? Hello Michael,

as far as I know you cannot access the RIM, the Registro de Información Migratoria, where all your data is registered.

However, on the main page of the Agencia Digital in die left menu you find the point Historial, where you have an overview of all your applications, and under carné, you see basic information that is registered.

Not sure if or for what you might need the information (most of it is printed on the carné), but you can apply for a "Certificado de información histórica en el Registro de Información Migratoria (RIM)".

Pay something around S/ 30 under code 07561 on pagalo.pe. Then enter the Agencia Digital and click on Mesa de Partes. Enter your data and then select "Nuevos trámites TUPA' and under subtipo "Constancia de registro de inscripción y título de nacionalidad peruana". Download the form Formulario F-SPE-001, fill it in and upload it again. Can't remember if you ahev to upload other documents.

Anyway, within a week or so you get a document per e-mail with your registered data.

      Hello Michael,

depends a bit for what the document is needed. Usually it's enough to print out the form, press your finger down in the ink of a black stamp pad and then on the paper (probably first try on another paper so your fingerprint comes out nicely). Sign the document and add the date, then scan or make a photo and upload it.

@Sunflower Thanks, and one more question, the DECLARACIÓN JURADA DE DOMICILIO I found requires confirmation that I'm a Peruvian national with a DNI. Does that mean that I need to use other means of confirming my residency, or is there another form for foreigners, or does this form supposedly work for everyone regardless of what's written in the form? (DNI, Peruvian national)

      Hello Michael,

most of the forms you find online are intended for Peruvians. You can just change it so it fits.

For example: "Yo (your name) de nacionalidad (your nationality) con numero de pasaporte (your passport number) y numero de carné de extranjería (your carné number) domiciliado en: ....."

If you aren't in Cañete make sure to change the city at the bottom as well.

Under "Pago por derecho de tramite" you are asked to enter certain information of the bank receipt
    - numero de recibo (number of the receipt) which is the "secuencia de pago" on the pagalo receipt
    - codigo de verficación (verification code) which is the "codigo control" on the pagalo receipt
    - fecha de recibo (date) which is the "fecha de operación" on the pagalo receipt.

But, I got this message: "El recibo no existe en la base de datos"

If this error continues, whom should I consult?

    Thank you.

      @Dhee Hello Dhee,

I've seen that you paid just half an hour ago.

Especially if you pay after business hours or on weekends it can take a while until the pagalo payment is processed and the receipt is accepted on the Agencia Digital.

Personally, I would try again later (at least an hour or so after payment) and if it still doesn't work wait until tomorrow. Latest by then the receipt should work.

      Greetings
      Eva
