Oktoberfest 2019 in Lima

Culture
oktoberfest-2019-lima
Date: Thursday, 31 October 2019

O' Zapft is … The Oktoberfest is back in Lima already in its 18th edition at the end of October.

What started in 2002 as small get-together with a few typical German dishes and German beer is now the largest and most important beer festival in the Peruvian capital.

Modeled after the original in Munich, today the Oktoberfest in Lima is a 5-day event that keeps an important part of Bavarian culture and the Bavarian tradition of celebrating each year a huge Volksfest (folk festival) commemorating the marriage of Kronprinz Ludwig with Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in 1810 even abroad alive.

Next to lots of German beer, simple Bavarian dishes such as Weißwurst (veal sausage), Frankfurter and other sausages, Hendl (roasted chicken), Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), Kartoffelsalat (potato salad) and Krautsalat (coleslaw) are served.

Additionally, visitors can enjoy typical Bavarian folk music and dancing, a relaxed atmosphere and lots of fun.

Please note: only on Sunday children are allowed to join the fun and then only until 06.00pm; otherwise the Oktoberfest 2019 is an adult-only event.
