The Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos, the largest annual Freestyle competition in which all Spanish-speaking countries participate, returns to Peru to choose the local champion and Peruvian representative in the International Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos Final held in Madrid, Spain later this year.
The event was held for the first time in 2005 and quickly developed into the most important and largest Freestyle competition in the Spanish-speaking world. The competition is based on the motto “Muchos hablan, pocos riman, solo los mejores improvisan” (many talk, few rhyme, only the best improvise).
So, in each Batalla de los Gallos two rappers try to outdo each other in a verbal combat staying ahead of the rival by improvising and rhyming better than the opponent. Physical attacks aren’t allowed and punish with disqualification. Each rapper battle is overseen by a jury who as well decides who wins the encounter.
Participants work their way through a qualification phase and elimination combats to end in the national final. The national champions then face each other at the International Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos Final which is held each year in another participating nation.
