The only Buddhism temple in the region of Lima is the Templo Jionji in Cañete, around 140km from Lima. This temple was opened in 1977. Its origins date back to the first Japanese immigrants in the beginning of the 20th century.

Most visitors come to the Buddhism temple during the celebrations of "Ohigan and Obon", a Buddhist ritual to honor the memory of ancestors.
