Hello Eva
I have had my Carnet De Extranjeria for nearly a year now but I see my passport is up for renewal later this year. I will be out of Peru while I get my renewed passport. Obviously I will update my information with Migraciones online. But I assume that I will need a new carne.
Any idea of how do I handle entering Peru again with my new passport? Do I use my old carne? Or….?
Many thanks for sharing all your wisdom!

So, you can only do it once you are back in Peru. So, if you get your new passport abroad, your old passport most probably will get cancelled. Make sure you keep it. To enter Peru just proceed to an immigration counter at the airport (or border). If you arrive at Jorge Chavez in Lima do not use the e-gates. There just show your carné, your old and new passport and explain that you got a new passport while being abroad and assure the immigration officer that as soon as you are home you will apply for the Actualización de datos con emisión de documento on the Agencia Digital. That's it.GreetingsEva

I obtained a new passport well in advance, while my old passport—the one currently reflected on my Carné de Extranjería—will remain valid until next year. My Carné de Extranjería will expire in October 2026.
I understand that updating my passport information is required. Would it be possible to update my passport details at the same time as renewing my Carné de Extranjería? I thought this might be more efficient, since it would avoid completing two separate procedures.
Would this cause any problem?
Thank you. - This commment is unpublished.@DianaHello Diana,as explained in my reply to your other comment, the key question is whether only your carné (the physical card) expires or whether your residence visa expires as well.
Let's assume it's only the carné. Once you receive a new passport, your old one is invalidated. You then have 30 days to inform Migraciones about the change. Since your passport number is printed on your carné, you must apply for an Actualización de datos con emisión de documento, after which you will receive a new carné with your updated passport information.
In your previous comment, you mentioned that you will return to Peru in October. Does that mean you are currently outside Peru, or are you in Peru planning to travel abroad later and return in October?
If you are currently in Peru, I recommend applying for the actualización immediately, as described in the article. This way, you'll have a new and updated carné before traveling and can leave and re-enter Peru without any issues.
If you are currently outside Peru and only your carné expires in October, you can apply for the Renovación de carné de extranjería upon your return. Just make sure that your residence visa is still valid, as a valid visa is required to renew your carné. During the renewal process (see Step 5 in linked article) you can enter your new passport number. This updates your information at the same time and saves you from having to complete a separate actualización procedure.GreetingsEva
