Since 2021, the Malecon in Miraflores, which over the past 20 years developed into a green oasis with miles long walking and cycling paths as well as numerous beautiful parks such as the Love Park or the Lighthouse Park has a new attraction overlooking the Pacific Ocean: the Parque Chino (Chinese Park).
Created to celebrate Peru’s 200th anniversary of independence as well as 172 years of Chinese immigration to Peru and 50 years of diplomatic relations between Peru and China, the park was inspired by the typical Chinese gardens radiating peace, tranquility, and harmony.
At the entrance of the Parque Chino a pair of typical Chinese guardian lions, which among many other ornaments were imported from China and donated by the Peruvian Chinese Community, not only welcome visitors but are thought to have mystic powers protecting this beautiful little place from harmful spiritual influences.
And - even though on a much, much smaller scale (the site has just 1,500 sq m, so about 16,000 sq. ft.) and adjusted to Peruvian circumstances and vegetation - you find all the elements of a classical Chinese garden including winding paths with a small bridge, beautifully invested gardens, a centrally located pond, rock works, more statues and carefully composed scenes, of course, a lovely Chinese pavilion, and as little “non-Chinese” extra: stunning views over the Pacific Ocean.
A lovely little place to relax and tune out for a while.
