In Puno, the Festival of the Crosses and the Alasitas Fair are inseparably linked. While the principal day is May 3 for both events, the fair, which has its origin in the indigenous Aymara culture, actually lasts 8 to 10 days.
Held in the Barrio Bellavista close to Puno’s city center about 2000 artisans and vendors sell dreams and things people want in their lives, such as homes, cars, money, passports, and much more, but all in a miniature version. A great carnival-like atmosphere full of old customs and traditions.
