As each year the German-speaking Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peru organizes a Christmas Bazaar at the end of November 2018 to ring in the festive season in Lima.
The day starts with an ecumenical family service at 10.30 am.
After that all sorts of lovely and useful things can be purchased in a very special atmosphere at one of the numerous stands. On offer as well typical German Christmas cookies, Christmas Stollen and much more.
Additionally, no-one has to go hungry: visitors can enjoy a few simple German specialties such as pea soup, meat loaf, bratwurst, different salads and cakes. Beer on tap and other beverages are as well available.
And don’t forget to buy some tickets for the tombola; some great prizes and lots of consolation gifts await you.
At 02.30 pm the Humboldt Big Band gives a concert.
Be aware that the money you spend at the Advent Bazaar is donated to a good cause: 100% of the proceeds go to the Casa Belen.
Casa Belen was founded in 1965 and today looks after about 150 children. Financed only by donations the Casa Belen is a day care center for children in the district of Breña, a very poor area just a few blocks away from Lima's city center.
The children come from miserable and poor circumstances, their mothers are often single parents and thanks to the Casa Belen can at least work for a few Soles to support their families.
At the Casa Belen the children find a loving and caring day home. They receive an overall support from qualified social care workers, well balanced food and medical care. The school children are as well supported with their homework by qualified teachers. Additionally, the Casa Belen offers support to the parents on all educational and social issues.
