The Art Museum (MALI) of Lima in collaboration with the Banco de Credito (BCP) presents “Plata de los Andes – Tesoros del Peru” (Silver of the Andes - Treasures of Peru), the largest temporary exhibition of this year in the museum which takes visitor on a journey through the history of silverwork produced in Peru.
The exposition showcases an invaluable collection of about 300 silver pieces – including ancient pre-Inka ceremonial items and other pre-Colombian silverwork, colonial liturgical objects, everyday silverwork, jewelry and silver items from Peru’s Republican era.
Most of the displayed pieces are usually not available to the public and exhibited for the first time ever as they are part of private, ecclesiastical and state-owned collections.
Next to the historic silver items themselves, interesting as well the interactive map which with visitors can explore the silver route from Potosi in Peru to the main distribution points in Europe, and the video animation explaining step by step the production process of a monstrance.
