The Peruvian Ministry of Culture invites to the event “Somos Pacifico – International traditional Afro-Peruvian and Afro-Colombian cooking get-together”.

Africans, who were brought to South America by the Spanish conquerors as slaves, not only contributed to the development of Peru with their skills, knowledge and hard labor, but also left their imprint on what we know today as Peruvian culture, and here especially in the music scene and gastronomy. To celebrate this important contribution the month of June is dedicated to Afro-Peruvian culture.

As part of the celebration the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Acua Foundation organize “Somos Pacifico – International traditional Afro-Peruvian and Afro-Colombian cooking get-together”.

5 Colombian women from Cali and Buenaventura and 7 Peruvian women from Yapatera, Zaña, Cañete and El Carmen prepare onsite some of the most delicious traditional Afro-Colombian and Afro-Peruvian dishes. Visitors are welcome to indulge into the flavors, learn more about each dish and enjoy Afro music and dances.
