New terminal at the Jorge Chavez International Airport

Lima’s New Airport Terminal to open in June

After many delays, the new terminal of Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport is finally operational.  On May 15, 2025, the terminal entered a trial phase allowing for real-world testing of systems and staff training.

During this phase, around 8 to 10 international flights per day from four airlines - Aerolíneas Argentinas, Air Europa, Volaris and Arajet - are exclusively operating in the new terminal to evaluate its readiness. All other airlines currently remain at the old terminal.

On June 1, at 12.00 pm, all domestic and international flight operations are scheduled to be transferred to the new terminal. The old terminal then ceases operations, but it is planned to be repurposed for medical services, offices, logistics, and private aviation, with the possibility of serving as a secondary terminal if needed. At least until 2026 the Emergency Passport Issuance Office for Peruvians will continue operating at the old terminal.

The new terminal is accessed via Av. Morales Duárez. With brand-new facilities, including access roads, immigration, and customs, and a footprint three times the size of the old terminal, allow yourself extra time to reach and navigate the new airport terminal. Airport officials recommend that passengers arrive at the new terminal at least 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic flight.

As soon as the new terminal is fully operational and more information is published, we update our extensive Lima Jorge Chavez International Airport article.

    Not sure where to post this but I would like to purchase an international flight ticket from Lima to Europe and pay in cash as I don´t have a credit card at the moment.

    Can anyone please recommend a reputable travel agency in Lima where I can buy a flight ticket in person in cash?  Also is it possible to buy a ticket at the airport with KLM and pay for it in cash?

    Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,

    Janie

      @Janie
      Hello Janie,

      you don't necessarily need a credit card to buy a flight ticket. If you have a debit card, this will work as well. If not, it might be a bit tricky.

      As far as I know KLM (Lima to Amsterdam) doesn't have an office or sales counters at the airport. The same applies to Iberia (Lima to Madrid) and Air France (Lima to Paris). The only airline I can think of at the moment, who has sales counters at Jorge Chavez, is LATAM with flights to Madrid and London. I don't know if they accept cash. The last time I paid something at an LATAM counter was 10 years ago and back then, yes, I could pay in cash.

      Sorry, I couldn't help more.

      Greetings
      Eva
