There are central emergency phone numbers for the police and the fire department. Amazingly the whole of Lima is only covered by voluntary fire brigades and the service they provide is very good! Hopefully you´ll never need them, but in case you do...

(Policía de Turismo, Cercado de Lima) It might be very helpful to contact them directly when you are in trouble (fraud, theft, accident…), because due to the chain of command the regular police will call them anyway to deal with all cases where a foreigner has been involved (most of them are supposed to speak English).

(Policía de Turismo, Miraflores) This police station in Miraflores was inaugurated in August 2007 to optimise the attention for tourists when encountering problems. The 'Brigada de Águilas Blancas' (White Eagles) based in this station, is an additional force on the streets with the main aim to increase the protection, security and attention especially of/for tourists. Generally this should be the police unit to contact in case of whatsoever problems while staying in the southern districts of Lima as a tourist!

(Seguridad Ciudana, Municipalidad Miraflores) The municipality of Miraflores operates like most other districts as well, its own city – police (called Seguridad or Serenazgo). These forces are independent from the police and give additional security to the citizens. In February 2007 the Seguridad Miraflores put a new unit in service: 'The Tourist Police'. They have clearly marked vehicles and there is a big sticker on the car saying: 'We speak English'. According to press releases by the municipality their employees are prepared to maintain ‘fluid conversations’ in English, French, Italian and Japanese. On board of the vehicle are additionally regular Policemen.

(Bomberos Voluntarios del Perú) The voluntary fire brigades of the various districts have very well equipped vehicles and respond to any kind of emergency quickly. They are prepared for fires, serious road accidents, but also provide good first aid for smaller incidents even at home. Their service is for free, a donation would be appreciated!
