There are many theaters presenting not only classic theater, but also cultural presentations, modern theater, experimental theater, dramas, dance performances, theater for children and not to forget shows and plays in numerous small theater bars. Most presentations are in Spanish, but don’t worry, even if your language skills aren’t perfect, its Art – you’ll understand.
It’s always difficult to judge over cultural ‘institutions’ and tell you which one is the best. As we are not dedicated theater critics, but the assumed most professional theaters are: ‘Teatro Segura’, the ‘Teatro Britanico’ , ‘Teatro de Centro Cultural PUCP’ and the ‘Centro Cultural de Casa Yuyachkani’. But all the other theaters big and small work very hard, have brilliant actors and present magnificent performances and plays that promise a nice and entertaining afternoon or evening. Have fun… Index of Theaters in Lima

It was always an important theater in Lima and well respected for its professional work. The theater was opened in 1909 under the name ‘Teatro Municipal’ and renamed 1929 to ‘Teatro Segura’ (after the great local dramatist Manuel Ascencio Segura, 1805 -1871).
Later a new ‘Teatro Municipal’ was established and remained ‘the’ place in town for drama, opera and ballet. After a devastating fire in 1998 it had to be closed down (still awaiting reconstruction). As a result the ‘Teatro Segura’ once again became Limas major theater. The yearly programme of the Segura includes brilliant theater and dance performances. Worth a visit are the amazing opera, ballet and modern dance presentations. Jr. Huancavelica 265, Cercado de Lima, Lima, Phone (00511) 426-7189
