![]() (Postal and Philatelic Museum) The museum is housed in the Central Post Office in Lima and shows a lot of diverse material that is somehow related to the Peruvian postal history. Displayed are documents, envelopes and of course stamps from Peru and the whole world, sorted by countries and topics.
Historical Background
The building that houses today the Postal and Philatelic Museum fulfilled since its foundation in 1897 an imported part in the evolution of communications in Peru. Originally this was the central post station responsible for all national and international correspondence. When technology developed and the telegraph was introduced to Peru it became the main relay station for all transmissions. In the beginning of the 20th century the first telephone switchboard in Peru was installed. The beautiful building (one of the oldest post offices in Latin-America) is the perfect scenario for the Postal and Philatelic Museum.
