The Largest Food Festival in Latin America is about to start

Finally in just 2 days Mistura 2013 opens its doors. From the 6th to the 15th of September 2013 the largest and most important food festival in Latin America is held on Lima's Costa Verde in Magdalena del Mar.

Mistura brings together small farmers, producers, food sellers, chefs, bakers, confectioners, restaurants, food enthusiasts, Limeños and visitors from all over the world for the country's biggest gastronomic folk festival, all celebrating Peru's rich biodiversity and amazing dishes resulting from it. Next to 10 days full of Peruvian flavors and colors visitors can also expect having a good time with cultural performances like typical Peruvian dances and live music, exhibitions, workshops and much more.

The different "Worlds" of Mistura 2013

Stretching over 2.5 km along the coast participating restaurants and food stalls are thematically divided into different culinary worlds:

  • Mundo Amazonico introduces you to the delicious flavors of the Amazon region
  • Mundo Andino with the best dishes of the Peruvian Highland cuisine
  • Mundo Anticucho focuses on anticuchos, Peru's popular "kebabs"
  • Mundo Ceviche offers a great variety of Peru's national dish ceviche, but also other fish dishes
  • Mundo Limeño introduces you to local Creole cuisine incl. famous dishes like Lomo Saltado, Papa Rellena, Causa and Cau Cau
  • Mundo Chifa y Nikkei with the best dishes of the fusion of Chinese and Japanese traditions and cooking techniques with Peruvian ingredients
  • Mundo de las Brasas offers everything cooked with fire and charcoal incl. Peru's famous Pollo a la Brasa and Pachamanca
  • Mundo Sanguches with the best Peruvian Sandwiches
  • Mundo del Sur introduces you to the delicious cuisine of the Ica, Arequipa and Tacna region in Southern Peru incl. Rocoto Relleno and Chupe de Camarones
  • Mundo Norteño offers the best of Peru's northern regions incl. dishes like Tortillo de Raya, Shambar and Seco de Cabrito
  • Mundo Taberna y Bares introduces you to the world of Pisco
  • Mundo de los Liquidos offers fresh juices, hot beverages like Emoliente, ice creams and Peru's famous Cremoladas

Mistura 2013 -  The Overview Map of the Venue

The organizers of this year's Mistura started a recycling campaign. As Peru is still in the early stages of environment protection and recycling, please support the campaign and set a good example. Don't litter, but use the different colored trash bins (green for plastics, yellow for glass and cans, red for organic residues and mixed waste) that are spread throughout the fairground.

More to see and taste at Mistura 2013

  • El Gran Mercado (the Grand Market) is the heart of Mistura and showcases the rich biodiversity in Peru. Here more than 400 farmers and producers from the Peruvian coast, highlands and jungle come together to offer their produce.
  • Acuario: Main theme of this year's Mistura is "Water and Peru's Marine Resources". The 600m2 area is a space to educate and raise awareness about the importance of protecting the ocean and its resources. Highlight surely will be the aquarium which showcases parts of Peru's undersea life incl. some live specimens.
  • Choco Expo Peru 2013 adds a sweet touch to the Mistura. More than 30 producers incl. the Choco Museum are participating and offering the best of cacao and chocolate products Peru has to offer. The Choco Expo as well includes workshops.
  • Mundo del Café introduces you to the great flavor of Peruvian coffee.
  • Mundo del Pan, the largest bakery of the country, offers more than 50 varieties of typical Peruvian breads.
  • Mundo de la Quinua focuses on Peru's "supergrain" important in the Andean diet for thousands of years. In the last years Quinoa became worldwide popular as it's gluten and cholesterol free while containing all eight essential amino acids.

Mistura 2013 - The Music Event Program

Mistura surely is the gastronomic highlight in Lima and the opportunity to indulge into Peru's varied and highly praised culinary and cultural traditions; so don't miss it. As the famous food fair will be crowded expect long queues and challenging traffic. Best go early, use the Metropolitano or walk a few blocks. Take enough cash with you as it was reported that no credit cards will be accepted.

Entrance: Mon – Tue S/. 15 (adults), S/. 8 (children up to 12 years), Wed to Sun S/. 25 (adults), S/. 12 (children), tickets available at Teleticket online or the booth at Wong and Metro
Additional Costs: Food is not included in the entrance fee; it's seems no credit cards are accepted, so bring enough cash!
Parking: flat fee S/. 20, but spaces are limited. Taking the expected horrendous traffic into consideration, better use the Metropolitano or a taxi.
